Like our Goddess belt, the Crochet Belly Chain is sort of in the tradition of waistbeads.  In Africa, women wear waistbeads for a variety of reasons and in a variety of ways.  For example, in some places they are to be seen by no one but your husband.
These are the crochet version, and they can be worn on your bare skin, looped through your jeans, or over your tee shirt to dress it up.  You might even be able to wrap them twice.
